Charles Lewis Tiffany, his father, had previously begun a jewelry store that was well known, Tiffany & Co, in eighteen thirty seven. To many, it may have been very surprising, however stained glass artwork is known to have a much longer history that is relatively unknown.

It has been a very common practice for a long time to match the slag glass lamp shades, as well as the Tiffany lamp shades and a variety of other lamp bases that weren't original.
